マディ・ディアズ（Madi Diaz）みたいな女の子を話題にする時に、僕らが気づいておかなければならないこと---抵抗を持ってはダメ、持たれてもダメ。君は彼女の魅力にすぐにメロメロになってしまうだろうけど、そう言う時って大体が悪い知らせに繋がるんだ。君が誰と結婚していようが付き合っていようが、彼女は即座に君を新しい魅 力で惹き付けるだろう。君が行動を起こそうが、それがたとえ夢だとしても、それは新しい恋なのだ。彼女は自分ではどうする事も出来ないけれど、そのパワー のせいで、状況はどんどん悪くなっていく。魔法のようなスティーヴ・ニックス（Steve Nicks）やルーニー・スペクター（Ronnie Spector）が漂わせていたジプシーの甘い雰囲気で彼女が歌い始めたらみんなクラクラだ。君は独り言で「ちくしょう！はっきり物が考えられないし、どう なってるかわからない！僕はもうむちゃくちゃだよ。」と呟く。わかる？ナッシュヴィル（Nashville）の可愛い女の子が書く曲は彼女と同じくらいで魅力的で人をうっと りさせる。もっと彼女に近づきたい、もっと彼女の言葉を耳に残したい、コーラスを優しく僕の髪の中に指で流れさせてほしいって感じるはずだ。どんどん君は 魔法にかけられて、夢の世界に迷い込んでしまうはずだ。"Kiss"で彼女はこう歌う。「もう夜も遅いし家まで車で送ってよ／でもこれからどうなるか ちょっと様子をみてみましょう／私がほしいのね／どうなるかわかるでしょ？／さあどうなるのかしら／興奮を隠せないわ／もう結婚を考えちゃってる／あなた がほしい／二人分の部屋をとってるの何がしたい？／もう待てない／もう嘘つけないわ／でもなんで焦らすのよ、私待てないの／キスをちょうだい／ちょっと一 回だけ／そうよベイビー、そんな感じ」そして君は、もう指輪を買って、ポケットの中に隠しておけば良かった！と思う。そうすればその瞬間に（突然のアイ ディアのように）差し出す事ができるからね。君は片足を膝に付き、目の前のかわい子ちゃんにそれを差し出す準備ができている。可愛いだけが魅力じゃない。 彼女の音楽が君にアプローチしたからだし、それが何の警告も無しに現れる衝動を信じさせてくれたからだ。音楽が君の耳や喉に届いたからだ。君の耳は満足し て、頭は彼女の事だらけで何週間も寝ずに起きていられるような気がする。彼女が電話を返してくるのを待つためだけに。
